- Clear all obstructions.
To help you with an affordable removal and of course a no-damage removal, clear the doorways and driveways. Remove all trip hazards like doormats or children’s toys so there are no trip hazards along the way. Store these in boxes or move them aside.
Clean or remove any mould off driveways, pathways, or stairs. This will avoid any chance the removalist can slip and cause an injury to themselves or damage to your possessions.
Extremely important especially if there is any rain around during your move.
Ensure if there are small children in the house during the move, they are kept amused and not running around. A good idea if they have to be at home is to arrange a babysitter to keep them amused.

Consider where the truck can park, the closer the truck can park to the access the shorter the walking distance. This will make it faster safer and therefore cheaper to move.

If possible use new corrugated packing boxes, make sure the bottom of the box is reinforced with packing tape.
Use large tea chest style cartons for large bulky lightweight items. In these, you can pack clothes, lightweight electrical items, toys and pots and pans for example.
Kitchen and heavier type items should be packed in medium or book cartons. Cutlery, crockery, china, books and magazines and the like.
The simple way to move clothes is by packing them straight into a porta robe.
Try to avoid overpacking all boxes or cartons with heavy items. Or, using boxes that are so large they become a hazard as they are so much more difficult to move.

The basic rule is don’t pay to move what you don’t need or use. In the time leading up to the move sell any clothes or footwear you don’t wear. Especially any children’s clothing or footwear they have grown out of.
Household appliances or furniture you no longer use or will not fit or suit the new décor. Sell the kids toys they no longer play with or have outgrown.
Gumtree, Facebook, garage sales and others are a great way to do this. Get the kids involved and share the profits with them. Use the money raised to offset the moving cost.
